FAQ

What is a flooring inspector?

We are trained flooring experts that provide a non-biased evaluation of your flooring problem. And insight into what or who caused the problem and what might be done to correct it.

What exactly do inspectors do?

We examine the issue and all the evidence and compare our findings to known issues and product knowledge available such as mill and industry standards.

Who can request an inspection?

Almost any one. We do inspections for major flooring manufacturer's, homeowners, dealers, installers and so on. Virtually anyone with questions concerning their flooring should contact us and inquire about an inspection.

Who pays for the inspection?

Whoever commissions the inspection pays. For example if you file a claim against your carpet warranty the manufacturer will send an inspector out to conduct an investigation into the issue. In this case the manufacturer pays the inspector.

If you request an inspection then you will pay the inspectors fee.

What is the fee for an inspection?

Our fees are dependent on the flooring being inspected, the location (local or long distance). Carpet inspections start at $175 and go up. Hardwood inspection fees start at $250 and go up. Laminate inspections start at $175. Ceramic tile and Vinyl inspections vary depending on material.

What do I get for my money?

You get the knowledge of the flooring expert. We provide consultation. We provide a written report. We provide digital photos of the issue.

How will all that help me?

Dealers, contractors and installers sit up and pay attention to a flooring experts findings. The report can be used in legal proceedings if needed. Most importantly it gives you knowledge of issues your dealing with and aligns you with an expert that can answer your questions.

Commercial Concrete Moisture Testing: CFI uses the Rapid RH system which is different than all other concrete relative humidity testing devices and moisture test methods. We are one of the first to offer below the surface moisture testing in our area because it is crucial to measure below the surface of the slab. Other methods check moisture content at the surface which is an unreliable method for determining if the concrete is ready to receive flooring. In today's market, a flooring failure because of moisture can be a costly setback.

In order to prevent a moisture-related failure to a floor covering or coating installation, it is necessary to have the proper moisture level in the slab. Therefore, accuracy of the moisture (relative humidity) readings is obviously critical. The patented Rapid RHTM Smart Sensor design is superior in a number of ways to other relative humidity test methods, because the sensor portion is permanently embedded into the concrete.

All of the competitive relative humidity testing methods use some type of reusable sensor, inserted into a plastic “sleeve” in the hole. These reusable probe methods require much more time and careful use in order to obtain accurate results while meeting the ASTM F2170 requirements. Improper use of reusable sensor probes can leave you at risk of a moisture- related flooring failure.

On the other hand, the patented design of the Rapid RHTM makes it quick and easy to obtain rapid and accurate relative humidity readings as outlined by ASTM F2170. Regardless of the methods or tools you use, we want you to be aware of the following issues, so you can obtain accurate relative humidity readings and mitigate your risk of a flooring failure.
